Nottingham City Council goes live with new adult social care tools to enhance service delivery

Nottingham City Council has joined a growing number of councils across England in adopting Formulate for Adult Social Care, a dynamic budget calculation solution from Imosphere. This innovative tool is revolutionising the way the council delivers and manages adult social care services, aligning with its commitment to a strengths-based, citizen-focused approach.

Why Imosphere?

Moving to Formulate and the Strengths-based Toolset has been a big change in practice and culture for the Council, but it’s been vital in supporting their commitment to providing strengths-based, citizen-focused care, and ensuring efficient use of resources.

The Council identified several key benefits as part of their decision to go with Imosphere. Martine Middleton, Business Implementation Officer at Nottingham City Council, spoke about what drew the Council to the tools:

“We chose Imosphere’s tools because of their strengths-based approach, which prioritises preventative care options and seamlessly transitions to follow-up assessments when necessary. The tool’s versatility with its three-in-one functionality – allowing for preventative assessments, needs assessments with budget calculations, and reviews – was particularly appealing. Additionally, the built-in Resource Allocation System ensures accurate indicative personal budgets, which is crucial for managing overspend. Overall it seemed like the ideal solution to helping us achieve our goal of having a sustainable social care system to help people live better lives.”

Key results

The Council anticipates several key results from the implementation of the tools. These include:

  • Improved citizen outcomes – through more holistic conversations with citizens, identifying ways to maintain independence without requiring long-term support.

  • Enhanced efficiency – fewer referrals for assessments and a reduced need for long-term care packages due to a strengths-based approach and increased prevention measures.

  • Sustainable social care – by focusing on citizens’ own strengths and resources, the Council aims to reduce the average cost of new care and support packages.

A significant step forward

The implementation of the new system has been smooth and efficient, with good engagement during workshops, accuracy testing and analysis.

Oliver Bolam, Head of Mental Health and Whole Life Disability at Nottingham City Council, said: “Working with Imosphere on this project has been an incredibly positive experience. The implementation process was straightforward, and the support from the Imosphere team has been excellent.”

It’s early days, but the tools have already enhanced our ability to conduct strengths-based assessments and manage indicative personal budgets accurately. This implementation marks a significant step forward in our commitment to providing high-quality, citizen-focused care.

What’s next?

Nottingham City Council plans to further enhance their services by implementing the Imosphere Self-assessment and Carer’s Support Plan to enhance their front-door processes, and support payments.
