Implementing a clinical registry ecosystem for a Comprehensive Cancer Center

Imosphere has been working with a leading cancer research institute in the US, to implement a next-generation data ecosystem to support their clinical registry teams in accelerating clinical research.

The institute has maintained cancer research registries for many years, and for over a decade, it has been recognised as an elite cancer hospital and is the leading cancer hospital in the US.

Project background

Having used various widely used clinical research tools, the institute approached Imosphere to understand if its clinical registry module, Atmoforms, and the associated analytics platform, Atmolytics, could help them solve critical problems that they were experiencing.

The team were looking for a solution that would support them in:

  • Improving the standardization of data definition and collection across their registries.
  • Moving away from tools such as Excel which were driving some of their form creation.
  • Bringing together patient data into one place in order to provide a single source of truth.
  • Speeding up ability to review patient data originating in the EHR and other sources.
  • Accelerating research findings and the production of research publications.
  • The early identification of cohorts of patients potentially eligible for clinical trials.

The results

Phase One of the project was successfully completed in late 2019.

Improvements included:

  • The standardization and clean-up of existing data in the three registries.
  • Consolidation of the data into a single database and platform.
  • An analytics and reporting tool which registry staff could use themselves.
  • Reduced reliance on their informatics team to produce the reports.

User feedback

Initial end-user training with their researchers and informatics specialists resulted in extremely positive feedback.

“We believe this will double the number of research publications we can produce per year.”

“The ability to easily and quickly pull out specific data is a game changer.”

“Users can run their own reports. In addition, reporting can be tailored to each individual depending on their user rights.”

“The reporting capabilities are superior to anything we have or have seen before.”

Future developments

Further registries and enhancements are being added throughout 2020 and beyond.
