CARAS Toolset V4: Supporting better outcomes for young people at risk

We are pleased to announce the release of the CARAS Toolset V4, which introduces significant updates to better support clinicians and enhance patient care. This release comes in response to feedback from the CARAS Toolset user community and reflects our ongoing commitment to improving the assessment and management of risks within the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) population.

Key Changes in CARAS V4

Splitting of the Child and Adolescent Self-harm Schedule (CASH)

In light of recent research and community feedback, the original CASH schedule has been separated into two distinct tools:

  • CASH (self-harm risk)
  • SAS (suicide risk)

This change addresses the growing need to differentiate between suicide and self-harm risk factors, ensuring that clinicians can accurately assess and articulate these distinct risks. The updates include a thorough review and separation of items, as well as the addition of new questions specific to each risk area.

FEDS Schedule Alignment with MEED Guidance

The FACE Eating Disorder Schedule (FEDS) has been fully updated to align with the latest Medical Emergencies in Eating Disorders (MEED) guidance, replacing the previously used MARSIPAN guidelines. This revision includes extensive updates to the FEDS tool to reflect the current best practices in managing eating disorders.

Impact on Other CARAS Schedules

Please note that all other CARAS schedules remain unchanged in V4, and the Risk Profile for Younger People remains at version 8.1 as part of the FACE Risk Toolset.

These updates are a result of our continuous efforts to ensure that the CARAS Toolset remains at the forefront of clinical assessment tools, supporting better outcomes for young people at risk.

For our existing customers, your Imosphere representative will be in touch in the coming weeks to deliver the new tools.
